Monthly Update - August 2025
August update, upcoming events and other news

Hello neighbours,
I’m a little late with the regular update. September started busy and with one week away at UBCM later this month, it felt like I was already behind before the month even started. Please read on for my August reflections…
Time seems to speed up in summer. And while September is still technically summer, September marks the return to regular schedules for many in our communities, including my family. This time is bittersweet; I enjoy the slower summer mornings (I don't miss making breakfast or dinner in a scheduled way!) and the time I have with my teens. We are all getting older, and some days I feel melancholy about the swift passage of time. Acknowledging time passing was abruptly thrust in my face with the death of my close friend’s mom. We don’t really know how much time we have with the ones we love and cherish, so I am working on living in the moment and appreciating moments with both family and dear friends.
Council did not meet in August, but we are still attending events, preparing for UBCM and carrying on as usual in our other work lives. Staff continues to work on all the many projects that Council has directed in previous months. Here are just a few photos from August.

I’ve also come to realize that it can be hard to remember what has been achieved this term. So in the near future, I will write about all the motions (and motions arising) I’ve presented. It sometimes feels like I have not made progress on the things that are important to me, but I have been reminded by wise friends that it is important to celebrate the wins and positive things.
General Updates
Bert Flinn off-leash trial: this is expected to start mid-September. You will likely see new signage installed soon to communicate areas and rules for off-leash areas.
Save on Foods in Heritage Mountain Plaza opens Friday September 12th.
Vancouver Sun: B.C. says it will strengthen oversight of municipal governments
Do you need a doctor? Register at the Health Connect Registry. The ministry uses this to measure need in a region.
And in case you missed it, a blog post on noise cameras.
That’s all for this month - short and sweet. September’s update will have more to share!
